Faramir's Shield ~ (The Lord of the Rings)
Available as prints, posters, phone cases and more on Society6

Ranger of the North, son of the steward, soldier of Gondor. Though not a member of the Fellowship himself, Faramir plays his own crucial role in aiding the journey of the One Ring through Middle Earth. Unappreciated by his father and shadowed by the successes of his older brother, Faramir comes to prove his value to members of the Fellowship and peoples of Middle Earth during the War of the Ring, solidifying himself as a worthy ally in the fight against evil. Show your appreciation for Faramir’s deeds by displaying his shield in artistic form.

About the Piece:

Faramir is one of my favorite characters from The Lord of the Rings and I've seen the movies OVER 9000 times, but I only discovered recently that he had an actual shield all to himself designed by WETA and the LOTR film crew. If I recall correctly, you only get a quick glimpse of this beautiful shield once or twice in The Two Towers and that's sadly it. The arms and armor designed for LOTR are absolutely fantastic, and those designs are exactly why I started this Shields series to begin with. Faramir's shield is no exception and between how much I love Gondor, how much I relate to Faramir, and how beautiful the overall design is, this shield was always at the top of my "to-do" list. This shield was a lot of fun to make in Photoshop, partially because it took a fraction of the time the The Numenorean Shield did. Total time for this piece is around 6-7 hours, only because I was distracted and being indecisive with some of the final details and shading towards the end. The entirety of the design was done in around 3 hours, though, so all in all one of my faster pieces! I really enjoy this shield and I very much hope other LOTR fans do, too!

haha I wouldn't mind at all! ;) It's created from official WETA design so ultimately it's not really up to me. You are more than welcome to use it as a reference for the tattoo artist, though. I'd love to see photos if/when you get it!!

Wonderful!  I'm also a fan of Faramir and it's nice that you were able to recreate his personal emblem.

That is awesome to hear! I think he's a somewhat under-appreciated character in the Tolkienverse when compared to the members of the Fellowship so I'm always really happy to come across fans who really enjoy him. Thank you for the comment! :D

AMAZINGLY EPIC!!! La la la la
Especially the texture of the shield~ Really awesome! Heart
I never noticed this shield design before either!
Although I've only watched The Lord of the Rings once when I was little, so I remember almost nothing about it....

haha YAY! I am very glad you like it! It always shocks me to think the first LOTR movie is over 10 years old now. I was in my teens when The Fellowship of the Ring came out, so since then I've seen all the movies an ungodly number of times. I honestly hadn't noticed his shield either until I stumbled across some images online from WETA when researching the Numenorean Shield...and that was only a couple months ago. I guess 10 years late is better than never? :giggle: I swear I am going to try to get a screenshot of the 0.1 second of screen time it has in the movies....

Ahaha~ I'm glad I found such an awesome artwork! XD
The movies are already that old now!? Phewww....
Wow, I should invest my time in watching this series properly, now that I might have a better understanding of it!
Lolz~ Good luck getting that screenshot!
I'll keep my eyes peeled for it when I come around to watch it too! Emoji06

Ohhh you should absolutely re-watch LOTR! :D It's got something for everyone to really enjoy, I do believe. The tone might be overall very serious but there is plenty of comic relief and general fun in the movies, too. The movies are incredible adaptations of the books, so you don't have to read the books to get a true feeling for Middle Earth, the races, the situations, etc. The movies recreate them very, very well. The books are a great read, too, but I don't think you miss a lot just by watching the movies. ;)

::always anxious to get someone more interested in LOTR:: I am a dummy!

Lolz~!
I get the feeling that I might end up reading the books after I watch the movies! It sounds promising! :happybounce:
I remember my year 4 teacher reading 'The Hobbit' to the class... Though I don't remember much about it... I do remember that it was really interesting! XD
I think I'm gonna have a very long watchlist of movies and anime for the December holidays... though that's awesome! (Since I finish high school this year~!!) La la la la

I think watching the movies before you read the books might actually be helpful to truly paint the picture of Middle Earth and the races/people/creatures in it. I read the books before the movies and had a hard time imagining what certain creatures looked like in any sort of detail, like the "fell beasts" that are kind of like dragons but not. The movies really portray the races and creatures how Tolkien would have wanted them, I believe. The movie team worked with the biggest Tolkien artists and studied his notes/info on how ideas were created in the first place, so I personally think it would just help you enjoy the books even further to watch them beforehand. ;)

I'd really recommend reading The Hobbit first before you dive into LOTR. It's a really quick and fun read! It'll set you up for everything else to come in LOTR, too.

Ooh, I see~
Ahaha, though I've heard sometimes movies might spoil the goodness of the book~ ToT
I guess LOTR is an exception! Meow :3
I shall watch LOTR before reading!! Sounds uber promising~ :happybounce:
Ah! Maybe I'll read The Hobbit first then.. ehehe~
